K-pop star Taeyong of boy band NCT is taking a bold leap in his solo journey, channeling raw, instinctive energy inspired by wild animals in his first full-length album, “Wyld.”
For many listeners, the concept is surprisingly relatable—capturing that same restless feeling of pushing forward, breaking limits, and trying to figure out one’s identity in a fast-moving world.
Ahead of the album’s release, Taeyong expressed excitement about sharing a more evolved version of himself with fans.
“I’m really excited and looking forward to sharing this album,” he said ahead of a special exhibition and listening event held in Seoul.
He described “Wyld” as a reflection of personal growth and self-discovery over the past two years.
“Over the past two years, I spent a lot of time looking back on my previous work, learning, and pushing myself to grow. I worked on this album with the hope of showing a more evolved side of myself, and I hope it becomes a project that awakens your musical instincts,” he said.
At its core, “Wyld” carries the idea of instinct—similar to how animals move without hesitation, driven by survival, emotion, and purpose. That same energy translates into everyday life: moments when people have to trust their instincts, take risks, and keep moving even when the path feels uncertain.
The album features 10 tracks that showcase Taeyong’s “Neo” identity, with his direct involvement in all songs. It highlights his growth not just as a performer but as a musician unafraid to experiment, blending hip-hop, jazz, rock, electronic, hyperpop, and future bass influences.
The title track, “Wyld,” is a hard-hitting hip-hop record powered by heavy bass, strong percussion, and experimental layers. Inspired by the movement of wild animals, the song channels a raw, untamed energy, with lyrics about pushing forward and chasing goals without holding back.
In many ways, that theme mirrors the everyday experience of navigating challenges, whether in work, dreams, or personal growth, where instinct often becomes the strongest guide.
According to Hanteo Chart, “Wyld” sold 176,092 copies on its first day, securing second place on the daily physical album chart for May 18.
Since his solo debut with 2023’s “Shalala” and his 2024 mini album “Tap,” Taeyong has steadily built a distinct identity as a solo artist, and “Wyld” marks another step in his continuing evolution.
