DSWD: 1.4 million drivers receive ₱7.3-B cash assistance

Cash assistance distribution for public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers nationwide is continuing under the government’s ongoing support program for the transport sector, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Tuesday, May 19.
“Ang atin pong nabigyan na ng tulong ay nasa mahigit 1.4 million drivers na. As of yesterday po (May 18), more than ₱7.3 billion na ang nailabas ng ating pamahalaan sa pagpapatuloy ng pamamahagi ng ating cash relief assistance (We have already assisted more than 1.4 million drivers. As of yesterday, more than ₱7.3 billion has already been released by the government as distribution of the cash relief assistance continues),” DSWD Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Irene Dumlao said.
The government has allotted a P30-billion budget for the program.
Dumlao added that payouts remain ongoing for jeepney and tricycle drivers outside the National Capital Region (NCR), while special distribution activities are being conducted in Metro Manila for transport network vehicle service (TNVS) drivers, motorcycle taxi riders, and delivery riders.
On Tuesday, the agency held a payout activity for Lalamove riders in Las Piñas City, where more than 2,700 beneficiaries had already received their P5,000 aid as of 11 a.m.
The special payout operation will continue until May 21.
Dumlao said similar payout activities were earlier conducted for riders affiliated with JoyRide and Grab.
DSWD has coordinated with transport network companies to organize payouts for riders who have yet to claim their assistance.
According to Dumlao, the revised payout system now uses scheduled time slots and designated booths to speed up the distribution process and reduce crowding at payout centers.
The assistance is being released through the agency’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program under the government’s Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport (UPLIFT) framework.
Cash aid distributions for the transport sector began on March 17 to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices.
