Cops alerted as flood hits some parts of Metro Manila, Mindanao
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has alerted all its units as flooding incidents were reported in several areas of Luzon and Mindanao following days of heavy rains.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. said police units, especially in affected areas, were tasked to immediately mobilize personnel and resources to assist affected communities and ensure public safety.
“We assure all our kababayan that your police will be present at a time when you need us. We have already mobilized our teams to help, in coordination with the local government units and other agencies,” said Nartatez.
Parts of Quezon City experienced flooding in recent days due to frequent thunderstorms. Flooding was also reported in Davao City on Monday morning as water levels rose in low-lying areas after heavy rains.
Nartatez said police commanders were also tasked to work closely with barangay officials and local government units, especially in identifying high-risk areas that may require preemptive evacuation.
He said police personnel on the ground have been instructed to coordinate rescue and relief efforts to prevent casualties and ensure orderly response operations.
“We ask the public to remain alert and to rely on official weather advisories,” said Nartatez as he emphasized the importance of early compliance with evacuation orders when issued by authorities.
