Police launched a manhunt for two men who allegedly stole more than P65,000 worth of coins from a neighborhood store in Barangay 156, Caloocan City, on Sunday, May 17.
The Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS) said incident happened at around 2 a.m. and was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
Police said the video showed the suspects monitoring the area before one of them forcibly opened the store and entered.
The suspect later emerged carrying a white bag containing coins and fled with his companion toward East Service Road.
The 56-year-old store owner discovered the break-in later that afternoon after seeing the damaged padlock and scattered coins inside the establishment.
The victim said the stolen money came from nearly a year’s worth of savings from store earnings intended for her husband’s maintenance medicines and financial support for her child.
Police said the owner also appealed to the suspects to return the money, saying it was earned through hard work.
Authorities said the suspects are not residents of the barangay and that security monitoring will be intensified, particularly in boundary areas near Barangays Balonbato and Unang Sigaw, Quezon City.
As of this writing, Caloocan police are continuing the investigation to identify and arrest the suspects.
