Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon has relieved two officials of the DPWH-Cordillera after a 13-year-old boy recently plunged to his death due to the lack of road safety signages and traffic control devices on a deserted collapsed road in Barangay Beckel, La Trinidad, Benguet.
The order against Benguet 1st District Engineering Office District Engineer Isagani Cayme and Engineer III Marjory Banao posted Tuesday, May 19, on the DPWH social media page was in compliance with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to hold agency officials and employees who neglect their duties and endanger public life accountable.
The incident on May 13 reignited public anger over the road damaged by last year's tropical cyclones.
Dizon said the tragedy must not happen again because of the negligence of DPWH officials.
Authorities are conducting follow-up investigation.
