A 59-year-old man with previous illegal drug and gambling cases -- recently tagged by police as a drug personality -- was arrested after yielding P170,000 worth of shabu in a predawn buy-bust in Barangay Payatas, Quezon City, on Sunday, May 17.
Operatives of Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 13, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, arrested the suspect, identified only as alias “Marcelino,” at around 12:50 a.m. following a tip from a confidential informant on his alleged drug activities.
Confiscated during the operation were about 25 grams of suspected shabu, the marked buy-bust money, and a cellular phone allegedly used in the transaction.
Police records showed that the suspect was previously arrested in September 2019 for violation of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and again in June 2022 for violation of Presidential Decree No. 1602.
He will face charges for violations of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of R.A. 9165 before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
Police Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio commended the operating team, saying the successful operation underscores the district’s intensified campaign against illegal drugs and sustained efforts to maintain peace and order in the community.
