Taguig police identified the suspect as alias Carla, 28, a resident of Barangay Western Bicutan.
A video circulating on social media showed the woman repeatedly striking the child.
Authorities said the incident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on May 18 in Sitio Buyo, Barangay Western Bicutan.
Police reported that the suspect assaulted the boy after allegedly arguing with the child’s mother, her reported partner. Several residents intervened, but the suspect allegedly redirected her anger toward the child, causing physical injuries.
Through a follow‑up operation, police arrested the suspect hours after the incident was reported.
The child was immediately rescued and brought to Taguig Pateros District Hospital for medical examination and treatment.
Charges will be filed against the suspect for violating Republic Act 7610, the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act, before the Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office.
Police said the boy’s mother will also face charges under Section 10‑A of the law, which penalizes acts of child abuse, cruelty, or exploitation prejudicial to a child’s development.
Southern Police District director Brig. Gen. Glenn Oliver Cinco said, “Hindi tayo magdadalawang‑isip na kumilos laban sa sinumang mananakit ng bata (We will not hesitate to take action against anyone who harms a child).”
