Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon appealed to the public for understanding regarding the ongoing major drainage project aimed at preventing flooding in front of the city hall. 

The Bruger Street Drainage Project began in July last year and is being constructed from the National Road through Bruger Subdivision towards Laguna Lake in Barangay Putatan.  

“For now, we ask for a little understanding and patience as we complete the project that will provide long-term relief against flooding,” Biazon said in a Facebook post. 

He explained that the drainage project is part of the long-term solution to the problem of flooding along the National Road, particularly in front of the city hall. 

The original plan was to build the project through private properties, but the owners refused. As a result, the drainage line was rerouted to Laguna Lake via Bruger Street.

Biazon noted that the project missed its deadline because underground utilities such as water, electricity, and telecommunication lines were discovered during construction. These had to be relocated before the drainage works could proceed.

“Hindi rin madali ang relocation dahil maraming residente at serbisyo ang maaaring maapektuhan. Nakipag-coordinate tayo sa mga public utility companies para mapabilis ang proseso habang sinisigurong minimal ang abala sa mga tao (Relocation is also not easy because many residents and services may be affected. We have coordinated with public utility companies to expedite the process while ensuring minimal disruption to the public),” the mayor explained. 

To date, most of the drainage works on Bruger Street are complete, with only asphalting pending. This will be done after the ongoing drainage works in front of city hall are finished.

Biazon said the target of completion in front of the city hall is May, with asphalting on Bruger Street to follow in June.

Adjustments are being made after an active gas line was found. He warned that if not properly addressed, gas lines could be damaged by the weight of vehicles passing through the National Road. 

There are also no complete records on file of the exact location of several underground utilities such as gas lines, water lines, electrical, and telecom lines.

Because of this, he said, they had to be identified and validated one by one during the excavation and construction to avoid malfunctions and service delays.

“The contractor is clear about their obligations. If there is any non-compliance with the contract or unacceptable delay, it will be accompanied by fines and corresponding penalties,” Biazon said.
