A man who ran amok, chasing and threatening residents with a blade in Pasig City, died following an encounter with police officers on Sunday, May 18.
Police said a motorcycle rider sought help after receiving threats from an unidentified man armed with a bladed weapon.
Responding officers from Caniogan Police Sub-Station 2 attempted to calm the suspect, but instead of surrendering the weapon, he charged at them.
One officer fell and was attacked, prompting him to draw his service firearm and neutralize the suspect.
Even after being shot, the suspect continued to target passersby and stab them, leading to a struggle.
Authorities sought assistance from Barangay Caniogan officials for medical aid and an ambulance.
The suspect was rushed to the hospital but later died from the injuries sustained during the encounter.
Scene of the crime operatives (SOCO) and investigators assessed the area, recovering a 20-inch long blade, one bullet casing, and a motorcycle.
Eastern Police District director Police Brig. Gen. Aden T. Lagradante lauded the swift action of authorities in defusing the situation.
He also reminded the public to immediately report disturbances to the police to help maintain peace and order.
