LTFRB: Over 141,000 jeepney, UV Express units can now avail of P10/L discount
More than 141,000 units of passenger jeepneys and UV Express were uploaded to the database that grants P10 per liter discount fuel subsidy, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) disclosed on Monday, May 18.
LTFRB chairman Vigor D. Mendoza II said the figure covers all regions and the availability in the system would make all those in the list qualified for the fuel subsidy program involving discount for diesel.
“This is proof that the government is still really taking care of the PUV sector despite the improvement of the prices of petroleum products. This will not only benefit the drivers and operators but also the commuters as well,” said Mendoza.
Based on the approved guideline, participating gas stations in Metro Manila and soon nationwide will be connected to the database of the national government through a mobile app that will list the qualified beneficiaries of the program.
Only PUVs with existing and valid franchises will be included in the database for a 150-liter ceiling every week for each of the PUV units.
Once the license plate was confirmed to be enrolled in the program, the discount will automatically apply which means that the driver will just pay the discounted price per visit to the gas station.
The fuel discount subsidy was originally launched in selected gasoline stations in Metro Manila and in coordination with the Department of Energy (DOE), which declared over the weekend that the program will now be implemented nationwide.
From more or less 50 participating gasoline stations in Metro Manila, Chairman Vigor said the number increased to a total of 4,299 nationwide.
So far, Mendoza said the national government has already paid over P13.3 million since the program started.
The LTFRB earlier committed to monitor and conduct immediate intervention to ensure smooth implementation of the P10/liter discount subsidy after it was made available to passenger jeepneys and UV Express drivers and operators nationwide.
Aside from the discount, Marcos earlier approved the P5,000 fuel subsidy for PUV drivers and operators. Service contracting program was also expanded to maximize the assistance to the commuters.
On the part of the LTFRB, Chairman Vigor said they will make sure that the P10/liter discount will be properly implemented nationwide through monitoring and active response in cases of glitches.

In the same guideline, the LTFRB was tasked to maintain custody and control of the budget allocated for the Fuel Subsidy Program.
The agency was also tasked to allocate and transfer the necessary funds to Land Bank of the Philippines for the administration, processing, settlement, and crediting of fuel subsidy amounts to accredited gasoline stations participating in the fuel discount system.
