The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has released P227 million in cash assistance to over 45,000 transport network vehicle service (TNVS) drivers, motorcycle taxi riders, and delivery riders in Metro Manila under its ongoing special payout operations.
Data from the DSWD’s Crisis Intervention Program showed that as of May 16, a total of 45,522 beneficiaries had received ₱5,000 each under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program, bringing total disbursements to ₱227.61 million.
The largest share of beneficiaries came from Grab and Move It, with 37,344 drivers and riders receiving a combined ₱186.72 million in aid.
Meanwhile, 4,300 JoyRide riders received ₱21.50 million, while 3,878 inDrive beneficiaries received ₱19.39 million.
The highest single-day payout was recorded on May 16, when 8,172 beneficiaries received a total of ₱40.89 million in assistance.
DSWD Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Irene Dumlao said the agency’s company-based payout operations have helped streamline the distribution process.
“Matagumpay pong nagpapatuloy ang ating special payout operations kada kumpanya para sa ating mga TNVS drivers, motorcycle taxi riders at delivery riders na mga benepisyaryo ng Php5,000 na cash relief assistance ng ahensya (Our special payout operations per company for TNVS drivers, motorcycle taxi riders, and delivery riders who are beneficiaries of the agency’s P5,000 cash relief assistance are continuing successfully),” Dumlao said on Sunday, May 17.
She said coordinating payouts per company improved verification and reduced congestion at payout venues.
“Mas naging maayos, mabilis, at organisado po ang ating payout operations dahil ginagawa natin ito per company. Malaki po ang naitulong ng ating pakikipag-ugnayan sa mga TNCs upang mapabilis ang verification at maiwasan ang pagsisiksikan sa payout sites (Our payout operations became more orderly, faster, and organized because we are conducting them per company. Our coordination with TNCs greatly helped speed up verification and prevent overcrowding at payout sites),” she added.
DSWD said payout operations will continue next week. Beneficiaries are advised to monitor announcements from their respective companies regarding schedules and venues.
The special payouts are part of the national government’s interventions under the Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport framework, to assist sectors affected by rising fuel prices and economic pressures.
