A gunman was arrested after allegedly threatening residents and disrupting a basketball court repainting activity in Barangay Amihan, Quezon City, police said.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) identified the suspect as a 45-year-old businessman known by the alias “Jeffrey.” He was nabbed by personnel of the Anonas Police Station led by Police Lt. Col. Leonie Ann Dela Cruz.
Based on CCTV footage, residents were seen fleeing from a basketball court along Banaba Street after the suspect allegedly arrived carrying a handgun and a long firearm during the repainting activity at around 12:50 a.m. on May 15.
Police said the suspect allegedly confronted the residents and issued threats, causing panic in the area.
Investigators added that the suspect allegedly threw various objects, including a head statue, empty gas tank, wooden base, and dumbbell plates, which damaged vehicles parked nearby.
The suspect also allegedly pointed a firearm at a barangay official who responded to the commotion before leaving the area.
Barangay officials later reported the incident to police, prompting a follow-up operation that led to the suspect’s arrest at around 7 a.m.
Recovered from the suspect were a 9mm Norinco pistol with five live ammunition, a submachine gun replica, and several items allegedly used during the incident.
The suspect will face charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, as well as alarm and scandal, malicious mischief, and grave threats under the Revised Penal Code.
QCPD director Police Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio said the police remain committed to swift response operations to maintain public safety and community peace.
