Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano led the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Environmental Management Bureau - National Capital Region and a major private sector for the rehabilitation of the Libertad Channel under the Adopt-an-Estero/Waterbody Program on Friday, May 15.
The agreement aims to restore and maintain the cleanliness of a one-kilometer stretch of the Libertad Channel as part of efforts to strengthen environmental protection and improve waterways in the city.
Rubiano emphasized the importance of collaboration between government agencies and the private sector in creating long-term and visible impact in communities.
“Indeed, this commitment to adopt a one-kilometer stretch of the Libertad Channel under the Adopt-an-Estero/Waterbody Program reflects the kind of partnership that creates lasting and visible impact in our communities. It reminds us that environmental protection becomes stronger when government agencies and private institutions work together with a common purpose,” Rubiano said.
The city government said the project is expected to help maintain the cleanliness of the estero, improve water flow, and reduce the risk of flooding in nearby communities, especially during the rainy season.
Rubiano also thanked EMB-NCR and SM Supermalls for supporting the city’s environmental programs aimed at protecting nature and promoting the welfare of Pasay City residents.
