Manila Water ramps up Rizal expansion projects
Enrique K. Razon Jr.-led Manila Water Co. Inc. has accelerated the expansion of its distribution network in the East Zone, implementing two key mainline extension projects in Baras town, Rizal province, as part of its broader push to connect more growing communities to reliable water service.
In a statement last Friday, May 15, the East Zone concessionaire said the network expansion has allowed it to serve around 7.9 million customers.
The company is expanding its infrastructure through a project in Barangay Pinugay, specifically designed to extend service coverage and deliver a more consistent water supply to relocation areas where demand continues to increase.
Manila Water said the Southville 9 phase 2-5 mainline extension project has already reached a 55-percent completion rate as of April 2026.
The project involves the installation of a 250-millimeter (mm) mainline spanning 963 linear meters of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes, supported by 544 linear meters of 150-mm HDPE pipes, as well as 400-mm steel and 250-mm HDPE components.
Once completed, the Southville system is designed to initially serve around 1,500 households, with a long-term capacity to support up to 10,300 households as service coverage expands.
The network will initially increase water delivery by 0.43 million liters per day, with the potential to scale up to 4.25 million liters per day, expanding localized water service coverage by approximately 4.56 percent.
Complementing this infrastructure push is the Heroesville 2 mainline extension project, which is currently undergoing road restoration.
This project features the installation of a 100-mm pipeline spanning 1,883 linear meters of HDPE pipes, aimed at enabling new water service connections in previously unserved sections of the barangay.
The Heroesville project is expected to provide water supply to around 700 households upon initial operation, with the capacity to support up to 1,200 households at full development.
Manila Water said the facility is projected to increase water delivery by 0.40 million liters per day, with total potential reaching up to 0.517 million liters per day, while contributing an additional one percent to water service coverage in the Antipolo City service area.
These twin projects represent a significant portion of the utility’s capital expenditure (capex) aimed at boosting provincial distribution and reinforcing community development across Rizal by delivering accessible and dependable water supply.
“Expanding the mainline network remains essential in reaching more customers and ensuring that growing communities have access to reliable water service, particularly in relocation areas,” said Dittie Galang, head of Manila Water’s corporate communication affairs group. - Gabriell Christel Galang
