The seven Filipino seafarers who were injured in a drone attack on a container ship passing the Strait of Hormuz are now in stable condition, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.
In fact, DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said two of them are now preparing to go back to the Philippines after they responded well to the medical treatment for the injuries they suffered during the attack on May 5.
The five other seafarers are still undergoing the final stage of treatment before they are cleared to go.
Cacdac said the injured were taken to a hospital in Oman after they were extracted from the Maltese-flagged ship San Antonio.
And since it is not yet clear when they would be cleared for discharge, Cacdac said the government will find ways to be with their respective families.
“We will help the family go to Oman to personally visit them while they are recuperating,” said Cacdac.
He said that the DMW is also coordinating with other agencies, particularly the shipping company and manning agency, to ensure the continuing assistance to all the affected seafarers.
