The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) has turned over two cheques totaling P10 million to the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) as a mandatory contribution under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
DDB Chair Oscar Valenzuela said the funds will support the continued implementation of drug treatment, rehabilitation, aftercare, and recovery support services nationwide.
He said the allocation will help local and regional partners operate and improve treatment and rehabilitation facilities, and support community-based recovery initiatives.
Further, Valenzuela said the assistance will sustain interventions that provide accessible health services, social support, and reintegration opportunities for individuals affected by substance use.
The DDB said the programs are part of a broader national response that promotes evidence-informed and community-based approaches to address the drug problem.
The agency earlier convened partner agencies to align community and youth drug prevention programs.
Through the Technical Working Group (TWG) on Drug Abuse Prevention Education (DAPE), agencies reviewed program structures and implementation across sectors. The group is working on a standard template to align learning components, delivery methods, and monitoring tools across institutions.
During the review, programs were assessed to strengthen refusal skills, life skills, mental health awareness, and community engagement.
The DDB also pushed for improved monitoring systems and the development of localized learning materials for different communities.
Technical experts participated from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Department of Health, Philippine National Police, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Labor and Employment, and the ASEAN Training Center for Preventive Drug Education.
Valenzuela said the multi-sector engagement strengthens preventive education efforts.
“These exchanges contribute to the continued refinement of DAPE programs that promote informed decision-making and support safer, healthier communities,” the DDB added.
The DDB said it continues to work with local government units through capacity-building sessions and grassroots anti-drug campaigns.
It added that the TWG will continue monitoring and aligning programs to ensure consistency and stronger coordination across sectors.
