It’s do-or-die Saturday in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup as Magnolia and TNT aim to complete an upset of their quarterfinals foes in the Game 2 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Riding the momentum of their huge Game 1 victories that allowed them to survive and drag the series to a sudden death, the Hotshots once again face the Meralco Bolts in the first offering at 5:15 p.m., while the Tropang 5G lock horns against the NLEX Road Warriors in the main event at 7:30 p.m.
Already going to such a length to keep themselves alive, Magnolia and TNT are surely all the more motivated to finally claim two of the semifinals seats.
But Hotshots head coach LA Tenorio knew that it would take more than their Game 1 efforts for them to take down a quality team like the Bolts.
“I hope we do more next game on Saturday because what we did today is not gonna be good enough for us to win on Saturday,” said Tenorio after Magnolia’s 95-89 win.
"They’re gonna adjust. But again, like what I said last game, I know my players, I trust them and I believe in them. I know they’re gonna be ready again,” he added.
But the Bolts won’t just simply fold with guys like Chris Newsome, CJ Cansino and Marvin Jones certainly determined to bounce back from their Game 1 loss.
“It’s 50-50 at this point. They’re feeling good. You can’t see that somebody has the edge. I think we did enough to show that we can compete against them, right? But we got to be better,” said Trillo.
The mindset should also be the same for the part of TNT and NLEX which are also having their own thrilling affair.
The Tropang 5G pulled off a nail-biting 96-93 win after surviving a late surge from the Road Warriors. But NLEX is surely eager to get back at TNT after having to play the crunch time without its top gun Robert Bolick.
Import Cady Lalanne also needs to step up against TNT’s 7-foot-3 import Bol Bol if it wishes to take down the Tropang 5G who have now beaten them twice this conference.
