Security guard, tricycle driver nabbed for cable theft in Manila
Two men, including a security guard assigned at Manila City Hall, were arrested in Ermita, Manila, after authorities recovered nearly 37 feet of allegedly stolen copper cables during a stakeout operation.
The suspects were identified as Jaycee, 21, a tricycle driver from Intramuros, Manila, and Joemarie, 46, a security guard under the City Security Force and a resident of Quiapo, Manila.
They were arrested at the corner of Antonio Villegas and Arroceros Streets in Barangay 659-A at around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13.
According to the Manila Police District Ermita Police Station (PS-5), the operation stemmed from reports of missing copper cable wires in the area.
Security personnel at a telecommunications company conducted a stakeout and later spotted Jaycee on board a tricycle carrying cut copper cables in the tricycle's sidecar.
Upon inspection, the wires were found to bear markings indicating they belonged to PLDT.
During the confrontation, Binaro allegedly arrived at the scene and introduced himself as a member of the City Security Force of Manila City Hall.
Recovered from the suspects were eight pieces of cut copper cable wires totaling 36.8 feet, and a black Rusi motorcycle with a stainless-and-violet sidecar bearing plate number 911QYR.
The suspects were first brought to the Manila Police District- Lawton precinct for police assistance before being turned over to the Ermita Police Station for proper disposition.
A complaint for violation of Republic Act 10515, or the Anti-Cable Television and Cable Internet Tapping Act of 2013, was filed against the suspects.
