REMULLA and Mabilog
ILOILO CITY – Former Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog here was appointed Undersecretary for Public Safety of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
He vowed to strengthen public safety.
“I will dedicate myself to strengthening public safety systems, promoting integrity and accountability in government service, and supporting responsive and effective governance,” said Mabilog in a statement.
“Public service is both a responsibility and a privilege, and I accept this new role with humility, gratitude, and determination,” added Mabilog after his May 13 induction by DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
Mabilog thanked President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his trust and confidence.
“I likewise pledge my full support in advancing the vision and programs of President Marcos under the Bagong Pilipinas agenda,” said Mabilog who thanked Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, Remulla, and Iloilo City Rep. Julienne “Jamjam” Baronda in his statement.
Mabilog was constantly attacked by former President Rodrigo Duterte as an alleged protector of drug syndicates.
Mabilog returned to the country in September 2024 after seeking asylum in the United States in 2017 when Duterte threatened to have him killed.
In January 2025, Marcos granted Mabilog executive clemency that reversed the Ombudsman ruling of perpetual disqualification in 2017 for serious dishonesty and grave misconduct over his alleged unexplained wealth that Duterte claimed was from drug syndicates.
Mabilog was special adviser of then House Speaker Martin Romualdez in 2025.
