Mayor Isko vows steady Manila services, hopes for stability amid Senate tensions
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Thursday, May 14, voiced hope for political stability in the country while assuring residents that city government operations and public services will remain uninterrupted amid national tensions.
Speaking during the “Talk to the People” broadcast of the Manila Public Information Office, Domagoso expressed optimism that the nation would move toward calmer political conditions.

“Manalangin tayo sa Diyos na lumiwanag ang kaisipan ng mga lider ng ating bansa. Sana magkaroon na tayo ng kapanatagan sa pulitika ng ating bansa (Let us pray that God enlightens the minds of our country’s leaders. Hopefully, we can finally have stability in the country’s political situation),” the mayor said.
The statement came hours after police forces nationwide were placed under heightened security alert following a commotion inside the Senate building on Wednesday night, May 13, where gunshots were heard amid rumors of an alleged attempt to arrest Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa over an International Criminal Court (ICC)-related case.
Authorities have yet to determine who was behind the incident, with both the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) denying government involvement.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. later clarified that no government agency had been ordered to arrest dela Rosa and said officials are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the disturbance.
Amid the national political climate, Domagoso stressed that the Manila city government remains focused on delivering basic services and fulfilling its commitments to residents.
“Dito sa Maynila, tuloy ang gobyerno. Dito sa Maynila, may gobyerno (Here in Manila, the government continues to function. Here in Manila, there is governance),” he said.
“At sa Maynila (Here in Manila), we are on track. We will deliver what we have committed to you, no matter what,” he added.
The mayor did not directly identify any particular political issue or personalities in his remarks, but emphasized the need for unity, stability, and continuity in governance.
Domagoso has repeatedly said the city government would prioritize uninterrupted delivery of public services, infrastructure projects, and social programs regardless of developments in national politics.
