The Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP AVSEGROUP) has expanded its bicycle patrol operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and other airports nationwide in response to the ongoing fuel crisis and rising operational costs.
The initiative, reactivated on April 10, 2026, under the leadership of AVSEGROUP director Police Brig. Gen. Dionisio Badongen Bartolome Jr., shifts some patrol activities from vehicles to bicycles.
The move aims to maintain strong police visibility while reducing fuel consumption and promoting energy conservation.
“Exploring cost-effective ways to sustain our patrol operations allows us to preserve peace and security in our airports while contributing to energy conservation as we face this crisis together as a nation,” Bartolome said.
While bicycle patrols may be considered traditional, officials highlight their practicality, efficiency, and environmental benefits.
The program also supports the health and fitness of PNP personnel assigned to airport security.
