Vice President Sara Duterte said former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte (PRRD) remains in “good spirits” as he faces legal proceedings before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.
In a video interview released by the Office of the Vice President (OVP) on Wednesday, May 13, Duterte shared details of her recent meeting with her father, saying their conversation mainly focused on family and their children.
“Okay lang siya, he's in good spirits. Nag-snack kami and mainly family ‘yung napag-usapan. Karamihan sa mga about sa family is ‘yung about sa mga anak na ang pinag-usapan namin. The love for your children, ‘yan ‘yung general topic (He’s okay, he’s in good spirits. We had snacks and mainly talked about family. Most of the conversation was about the children — the love for your children, that was the general topic),” Duterte said during an interview in The Hague on May 12.
The Vice President is currently in the Netherlands as her father faces proceedings before the ICC over allegations linked to his administration’s controversial war on drugs.
When asked about the ICC’s release of the names of legal counsels, including lawyer Peter Haynes, Duterte declined to comment extensively and said official announcements should come directly from the international tribunal.
“Iiwan na lang natin sa ICC ang mga official announcements sa kaso ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte kasi kahit ano pa namang sabihin natin dito sa labas, kung hindi ‘yun order o utos ng ICC ay wala ding katuturan (We will just leave the official announcements on the case of former President Rodrigo Duterte to the ICC because whatever we say outside, if it is not an order or directive from the ICC, it has no meaning),” she said.
Duterte also confirmed that she has not yet met the newly named counsel. “Hindi ko na-meet ‘yung counsel (No, I did not meet the counsel),” she added.
Malacañang Palace earlier confirmed that the Office of the President approved Duterte’s revised foreign travel schedule from May 2 to 15. A Palace official said the travel authority, issued on April 28, covers trips to the Netherlands, the Republic of Korea, Belgium, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
The Vice President initially requested travel clearance from April 23 to May 15, but later submitted a revised itinerary reflecting the approved travel dates.
