ZAMBOANGA CITY – The four congressmen from this city were divided in their votes in the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday, May 11.
Zamboanga City second district Rep. Jerry “Kap Totong” Perez voted no while first district Rep. Kat Chua voted yes.
The two party-list representatives from Zamboanga City also had different votes.
SSS GSIS Pensyonado party-list Rep. Rolando Ledesma Macasaet was among the 26 lawmakers who voted against the transmittal of the impeachment complaint to the Senate for trial while Akbayan party-list Rep. Dada Ismual voted along party lines and favored an impeachment trial.
Perez said his decision was driven by a commitment to uphold political stability, respect due process, and protect the interests of his constituents.
He emphasized the necessity of adhering to constitutional procedures and exercising caution during this politically sensitive period for the nation.
Macasaet, Chua, and Ismula were not able to provide the reasons for their decisions but their political backgrounds provided reasons behind their votes.
