You can now use crypto to pay at Philippine QR terminals with Coins.ph
Coins.ph has recently introduced its QRPh Crypto Payment feature, allowing users to pay using either Philippine peso or cryptocurrency at any merchant that accepts QRPh.
To use the QRPh Crypto Payment feature in the Coins.ph app, scan the QR code at any QRPh-enabled establishment, such as Auro Chocolate Cafe in BGC.
- Enter the amount you’re about to pay in the Coins.ph app.
- Select USDT as the payment asset.
- Confirm payment.
- Enter verification code.
- The transaction will be processed in the Coins.ph app.
- Wait until the Coins.ph app confirms the transaction has been successful.
The new feature removes the usual friction of converting crypto into cash before making a purchase. Instead of manually selling digital assets, users can now seamlessly use their crypto balance to pay for items directly through the app.
Using the system is straightforward. At any store displaying a QRPh code, whether it’s a small boutique or a large retail chain, users can scan and choose their preferred payment method. They can pay in peso as usual or opt to use crypto.
For its initial rollout, Coins.ph supports stablecoin payments using Tether (USDT). As a dollar-pegged asset, USDT provides the speed and efficiency of crypto transactions while minimizing price volatility, making it more practical for everyday spending.
The move marks a significant step in bridging digital assets with real-world use. With access to nearly 700,000 QRPh-enabled merchants nationwide, Coins.ph is effectively turning crypto from a store of value into a usable form of payment.
According to Wei Zhou, the initiative is part of the company’s broader push to make crypto more relevant in daily life. “We want to simplify transactions for users who need the flexibility of being able to pay in peso or crypto,” he said.
The platform also addresses common concerns around transaction reliability. If a payment fails, the system automatically reverses the conversion, restoring the user’s crypto balance. Refunds, on the other hand, are processed in Philippine peso.
With this launch, Coins.ph is positioning itself at the forefront of digital payments in the country, bringing together traditional finance and blockchain-based assets in a single, user-friendly platform.
