BACOLOD CITY – A 48-year-old soldier and member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) Active Auxiliary (CAA) were killed in an ambush in Barangay Maquiling, Sagay City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, May 12.
1st Lt. Fevie Fajardo, Army 79th Infantry Battalion (IB) civil military operations officer, identified the fatalities as Corporal Robert Dador, assistant detachment commander of the Celestino Villacin CAA patrol base, and CAA Jonhrey Moncatar, 26.
Fajardo said the victims wearing civilian clothes were riding a motorcycle from their detachment to the market when they were attacked by two unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants.
"They were probably monitored," she said, adding that the target might be the soldier.
Fajardo said the victims died on the spot. Dador’s service firearm and personal valuables were intact.
Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
Fajardo advised soldiers to be vigilant at all times and condoled with the families of the victims.
