Return to Middle-earth: Season 3 of 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' gets premiere date
The third season of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is officially headed to Prime Video on Nov. 11, with the streaming platform confirming the premiere date during Amazon’s annual Upfront presentation.
The fantasy series, based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, has become one of Prime Video’s biggest global titles, drawing more than 185 million viewers worldwide since its debut.
Peter Friedlander, head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, said the response from audiences around the world has fueled anticipation for the upcoming season.
“From the very beginning, this series has embodied the scale, ambition, and cinematic storytelling that define Prime Video’s biggest global series,” Friedlander said. “The extraordinary response from millions of fans around the world has made it clear that this journey through Middle-earth continues to resonate.”
Prime Video also touted the show’s strong streaming performance, with Season 1 remaining the platform’s biggest TV series premiere to date, while Season 2 ranked among its top-performing returning seasons. The second installment also debuted at No. 1 on Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10 chart and stayed in the top four throughout its run.
Set thousands of years before the events of Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings,” the series explores the legendary Second Age of Middle-earth, chronicling the rise of kingdoms, the forging of powerful rings, and the return of evil.
Season 3 will jump forward several years after the events of Season 2 and take place during the height of the war between the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord moves to forge the One Ring in a bid to secure victory.
