Operatives of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) arrested a repeat offender and a minor after they were caught cutting and taking copper cable wires owned by a telecommunications company valued at P12,105.86.
Members of Galas Police Station 11 were conducting an anti-criminality patrol at around 6 a.m. on May 10 along Quezon Avenue in Barangay Josefa, Quezon City, when they spotted the suspects dismantling telecommunications cables connected to a utility post.
Police identified the suspects as alias “John Lloyd,” 24, a resident of Manila with a prior malicious mischief case in 2023, and a 16-year-old male from Barangay Sto. Niño in Quezon City.
Authorities said the two suspects intended to resell the stolen copper telephone and internet cables.
Recovered from the suspects were 11 pieces of copper cable wires measuring five meters each and another piece measuring 14 meters, with a total value of P12,105.86.
The suspects will face charges for violation of Republic Act No. 10515 or the Anti-Cable Television and Cable Internet Tapping Act of 2013, and theft, while the minor will be turned over to the Molave Youth Home in Quezon City in accordance with juvenile justice procedures.
QCPD district director Police Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio said operations against individuals targeting public utility infrastructure will be intensified to protect essential communication services.
