BACOLOD CITY – The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) commended the courage and bravery of two policemen who were injured in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Talaptap, La Castellana, Negros Occidental on Monday.
Police Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, PRO-NIR director, accompanied by Police Col. Dennis Wenceslao, director of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), conferred a Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting to Police Capt. Michael Muñez, deputy chief of the La Castellana Municipal Police Station, and Police Corporal Jerson Guache on Tuesday, May 12, during his visit to Muñez in a hospital here.
Cardiño recognized the unwavering commitment to public service of the wounded policemen. He assured them of full support for their recovery and well-being.
"True heroes wear the badge with courage, sacrifice, and honor. Salute to our brave men and women in uniform who continue to serve with valor despite the risks and challenges of the profession," he said.
One police officer – Police Master Sgt. Davy Carampatana – was stabbed to death in the operation. A 41-year-old suspected drug pusher was arrested.
Muñez and Guache were wounded when the suspect's elderly mother attacked them during the operation. Guache has been discharged from the hospital.
