Mayor Lani to Sen. Cayetano: Be guided by the Lord as new Senate president

Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano expressed hope that her husband, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, will be guided by the Lord in his new role as Senate president.

Cayetano assumed the Senate's top post on May 11 after securing 13 votes.

“Earlier, your Kuya Alan Cayetano was elected Senate President of the Republic of the Philippines,” Mayor Cayetano posted on Facebook on May 11.

She accompanied her husband as he took his oath of office.

“To our dear Alan, my sincerest hope is that you be guided by the Lord as you fulfill your new duty to our country. Your fellow Taguigeños know the weight of this mission, but by GOD's grace, we believe that you can fulfill your new responsibility for the Filipino people,” she said.

Cayetano succeeded Sen. Vicente Sotto III.

The leadership change in the Senate came ahead of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
