GCash for Business, the enterprise arm of the country’s dominant digital wallet, has entered into a partnership with global fintech platform Pine Labs to overhaul its merchant acquisition strategy and modernize payment infrastructure for small businesses.
In a statement, Pine Labs said the collaboration integrates its point-of-sale software and value-added services with the GCash ecosystem, aiming to provide micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with enterprise-grade financial tools.
Through this tech-first integration, Pine Labs said Filipino merchants will gain the ability to process a wider range of digital transactions, including traditional credit cards and QR-based payments, via a single platform.
The expansion comes as GCash seeks to move beyond simple peer-to-peer transfers and deepen its footprint in the retail sector. By leveraging Pine Labs’ stack, GCash for Business will introduce new consumer-facing features such as installment payment plans, loyalty programs, and automated cashback rewards directly at the point of sale.
These enhancements are designed to help local MSMEs compete with larger retailers by offering the same flexible payment options found in major department stores.
“GCash helps Filipino entrepreneurs grow by giving them simple, reliable ways to accept payments and manage their daily operations,” said Paul Albano, General Manager and Head of GCash for Business.
Albano noted that the partnership allows merchants to offer more payment choices and perks, facilitating business expansion and customer retention in a competitive digital economy.
The initiative centers on lowering the barrier to entry for digital adoption. GCash recently launched devices such as SoundPay Plus and EasyPOS, which allow merchants to receive real-time audio confirmations of payments and turn mobile devices into functional point-of-sale terminals.
These tools, now bolstered by Pine Labs’ backend, ensure that even the smallest vendors can maintain a secure and compliant fintech infrastructure.
Dheeraj Chowdhry, Pine Labs chief business officer for Southeast Asia, said that the company’s rapid deployment capabilities would improve merchant onboarding and engagement across the country.
Pine Labs already maintains a significant presence in the Philippines, where it manages the gift card program for SM Retail.
For the millions of MSMEs currently operating in the Philippines, the shift represents a move toward a more “future-ready” ecosystem. By consolidating multiple payment modes and financial services into a unified interface, the partnership aims to drive the adoption of digital payments at the physical point of sale.
Interested merchants can now access these integrated solutions through the GCash for Business portal as the rollout begins nationwide.
