The Caloocan City government has opened the "Calm Space," a new facility offering free relaxation and mindfulness activities aimed at promoting mental health awareness among residents.
Located on the 5th Floor of Caloocan City Hall–South, the Calm Space recently held its opening sessions featuring yoga classes and sound healing activities for participants.
City officials said the initiative is designed to provide accessible wellness services, with future programs set to include on-site mental health coaching and basic counselling support for residents in need of immediate assistance.
Caloocan Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan said the program underscores the city’s growing focus on mental health, particularly among young people experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and burnout.
In his statement, Malapitan emphasized the importance of integrating mental health services into local health programs.
He said the city has observed increasing mental health concerns among students and young residents during community visits and school engagements.
“Sa pagbisita natin sa mga komunidad at sa mga eskwelahan, nakita po natin na malaking issue pa rin sa mga kabataan ang pagkakaroon ng mental health concerns kaya naman po naging bahagi ng mga programang pangkalusugan natin ang pagtitiyak na maayos ang kalagayang pangkaisipan ng lahat (During our visits to communities and schools, we have seen that mental health concerns remain a major issue among the youth, which is why ensuring the mental well-being of everyone has become part of our health programs),” Malapitan said.
He added that the local government remains committed to addressing both the physical and mental well-being of Caloocan residents.
“Remember, if you need to pause, you have Caloocan Calm Space to help you heal and recover.”
The city said more wellness sessions will be rolled out in the coming weeks as part of its broader mental health advocacy program.
