Dua Lipa files $15M lawsuit against Samsung over alleged unauthorized use of image

Pop star Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung, accusing the tech company of using her image on television packaging without permission.

According to court documents filed in California, the singer claims Samsung featured a photo of her on TV boxes sold in the United States, allegedly without her consent.

The image was reportedly taken during Lipa’s 2024 Austin City Limits Festival performance, with the lawsuit stating that the singer owns the copyright to the photograph.

Lipa’s legal team argued that Samsung used her likeness to help market and sell its products, allegedly capitalizing on her global fame and commercial appeal.

The issue reportedly surfaced in June 2025 after fans began posting photos of the packaging online, with some social media users nicknaming it the “Dua Lipa TV Box.”

The lawsuit also cited comments from fans claiming they would buy the television simply because the singer appeared on the packaging.

In addition to copyright infringement, the filing includes allegations of trademark infringement and unauthorized use of Lipa’s image and likeness.

The singer’s camp further claimed Samsung ignored repeated demands to stop using the image.

Samsung has denied any intentional wrongdoing, saying the photo came from a third-party content provider linked to Samsung TV Plus. The company said it was assured all necessary permissions had already been secured before the packaging was released.

Samsung also stated that it respects artists and intellectual property rights and remains open to resolving the matter with Lipa’s team.
