Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda has denied rumors of his resignation, stressing that false information is being spread to “sow confusion and undermine public trust.”
“I deny the false reports and speculations that I have resigned from my position as Secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT),” he said in a statement on Tuesday, May 12.
The DICT chief underscored how the rumors reflect the growing influence of disinformation on the internet and social media.
“The DICT has been steadfast in its efforts to combat disinformation and the spread of fake news, and this latest rumor is yet another example of how false narratives can be weaponized to sow confusion and undermine public trust,” he added.
According to Aguda, the DICT has achieved recent gains in pushing for more inclusive and comprehensive digital transformation initiatives.
“The DICT remains focused on the important work ahead in accelerating digital transformation, expanding connectivity, and ensuring that digitalization initiatives translate into meaningful and inclusive benefits for all,” he said.
He also reiterated his commitment to continue leading the agency in the interest of the Filipino people.
“As with all members of the Cabinet, I continue to serve at the pleasure of the President and remain fully committed to carrying out the mandate entrusted to me by the administration,” Aguda said.
