Young rider Hudson Genato Schoonmaker, famously known in the racing community as “Little Hudson Hornet,” clinched the title in the prestigious Bixbi Bikes Taiwan Championship held last May 9 in Taipei, Taiwan.
In a display of speed, determination, and fearless racing, the 5-year-old Hudson outpaced top racers from across Asia, becoming one of the first Filipino children to capture a championship title in Taiwan — a massive milestone for the Philippine pushbike scene.
Known for his explosive starts and instinctive racing style since he was two years old, Hudson has become one of the sport’s most exciting young talents. Despite his age, he already competes with the heart and intensity of a seasoned racer.
Runbike racing, also known as pushbike racing, is one of the fastest-growing youth sports in Asia and is rapidly gaining popularity in the Philippines. The sport uses specially designed bicycles without pedals (known as a balance bike or pushbike), where children as young as 2 years old propel themselves by running and gliding around race tracks at incredible speeds.
Behind the sport’s explosive growth in the Philippines is Kick2Pedal Runbike Racing, the pioneering organization helping develop young riders through grassroots development, monthly rookie races, and major international-caliber events. In 2026 alone, Kick2Pedal is set to host six major international races, continuing its mission of elevating Filipino riders onto the world stage.
Hudson’s victory is more than just a championship win — it is a symbol of how far Filipino runbike racing has come. It reflects the growing talent, discipline, and passion of young Filipino athletes who are now proving they can compete — and win — against the best in Asia.
