Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon is so confident of Vice President Sara Duterte's impending impeachment, he has released a fearless forecast of sorts in the morning of the potential plenary vote on Monday, May 11.
"Today, the 20th Congress House of Representatives will make history. Under two different Congresses, the House will impeach Vice President Sara Duterte for a second time," Ridon confidently declared.
Duterte was impeached by the House of Representatives via the constitutional "fast track" mode on Feb. 5, 2025, during the tail end of the previous 19th Congress.
"With at least 215 votes expected to impeach the Vice President—the same number as last year’s impeachment vote—she will soon be made to face an impeachment trial on the basis of unexplained wealth, confidential funds misuse, threats against the President, and bribery, all founded on a broad and solid body of evidence, testimonies, and documents presented before the House Committee on Justice," Ridon said.
According to the justice committee member, the evidence has clearly established probable cause for betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution.
Ridon said that taken together, the four articles of impeachent against Duterte constitute a clear showing of betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution.
"Today’s vote is therefore not merely a political exercise. It is a constitutional act of accountability," said the lawyer-legislator.
"And as the House prepares to vote, we must remember that this process does not belong to any one politician, party, or institution alone. This fight is ultimately the nation’s fight—for truth, for accountability, for justice," he said.
Committee Report (CR) No.261--which contains the four articles--is scheduled to be tackled during plenary session Monday afternoon. It will be sponsored by panel chairman Batangas 2nd district Rep. Gerville "Jinky Bitrics" Luistro.
The earliest that a vote for the adoption of the articles--and Duterte’s impeachment this 2026--is Monday afternoon, although this would depend on how exhaustive the different solons' interpellations on Luistro would be.
The House will also hold plenary sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday.
