Police arrested a pawnshop appraiser after a customer reported that jewelry and silver coins valued at around ₱34,000 went missing during valuation at the shop on Kamias Road in Quezon City on Saturday, May 9.
Operatives of Police Station 9 (PS9) of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) immediately responded to the complaint, which led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of several allegedly missing valuables.
The suspect—identified only by the alias “Edmar,” 21, a resident of Barangay San Roque Murphy and employed as a pawnshop appraiser—was arrested at around 1 p.m.
Initial investigation showed that the complainant brought two gold rings, one cut earring, and 25 Silver Liberty Coins to a pawnshop along Kamias Road for appraisal.
The complainant later discovered discrepancies upon reviewing the acknowledgment receipt and reference photos of the submitted valuables, showing that one gold ring and several silver coins were missing.
Responding officers later recovered from the suspect a small ziplock bag containing nine Silver Liberty Coins and one gold ring believed to have been taken from the complainant’s items.
Further investigation also revealed inconsistencies in the weight entries reflected in the acknowledgment receipt issued during the transaction.
Recovered items included 18K gold jewelry weighing 3.82 grams, silver coins totaling 623.35 grams, additional commemorative coins, jewelry pieces, and one cut earring.
Police said the suspect will face theft and estafa charges before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
