Senator Erwin Tulfo believes that a change in the Senate leadership because of a would-be handling of Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment sends the wrong message.

In an interview, Tulfo said that there's no need for a leadership shift.
“Hindi, kasi nakakahiya naman. Dahil sa impeachment lang magpapalit ng liderato (That's shameful. Just because of the impeachment, there will be a change in leadership). That clearly sends a very wrong signal,” he said.
He also dismissed rumors of a possible leadership change in the Senate ahead of the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, saying there was no movement to replace the chamber’s current leadership.
Tulfo said he had personally asked fellow senators about the supposed talks of a coup and was told there was none.
“Wala naman. Tinanong ko si Sen. Loren; wala. Tinanong ko si SP; wala raw. Sabi lang ang media lang ang nagsabi noon (There’s none. I asked Sen. Loren, there’s none; I asked the Senate President, he also said there’s none. He said it was only the media that mentioned it before),” Tulfo said, referring to Senator Loren Legarda and Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III.
Tulfo also denied that anyone had approached him regarding any move to reorganize the Senate leadership.
When asked if Sotto’s leadership remained secure, Tulfo expressed confidence that any supposed move against the Senate President would not prosper.
“I think so. They don’t have the numbers,” he said.
