BACOLOD CITY – A 25-year-old man was stopped from boarding a flight at Bacolod-Silay Airport in Silay City, Negros Occidental on Monday, May 11, after airport authorities found suspected drug paraphernalia in his luggage during routine screening.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the passenger from Silay City was scheduled to fly to Manila for work when airport X-ray personnel flagged a suspicious item in his bag.
Authorities recovered an improvised tooter hidden inside a chewing gum container.
In a radio interview, the man’s father said he had no knowledge of the item and only learned about the incident through a barangay official.
He added that his son returned to the province last month for a vacation and celebrate his child’s birthday and was headed back to Manila for work when he was apprehended.
Police were called to assist and the passenger was turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for investigation and proper disposition.
