Malabon police have sounded the alarm over rising "salisi" thefts, warning that distraction gangs are prowling crowded markets and busy streets to snatch valuables from unsuspecting shoppers.
Authorities said suspects typically operate by using diversion tactics such as initiating conversations, dropping objects, or intentional bumping to distract victims before stealing valuables in congested areas.
The Malabon City Police Station advised the public to keep bags secured and positioned in front, and avoid displaying expensive gadgets or large amounts of cash.
Residents were also urged to avoid engaging with strangers who may attempt to create distractions.
They were likewise advised to immediately report suspicious individuals or incidents to the nearest police station or through the MCPS hotline 0998-598-7864.
