Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa has yet to respond to the proposed imposition of a “no work, no pay” policy in the Senate, Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito said on Monday, May 11.
Ejercito, chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges, said that the panel is still waiting for Dela Rosa to comment on the proposal to amend the Senate rules on absentee senators.
The senator said the panel will wait for Dela Rosa’s response until Wednesday, May 13.
“The ethics committee has already sent formal communication with his office for him to comment (on the proposal) for rules amendment and also to explain his continued absence,” Ejercito said
“We are waiting for his reply until May 13,” he added.
Last week, the Senate ethics panel formally asked the lawmaker to comment on the proposal. The document was sent and received by his office that still continues to function despite his absence.
Dela Rosa has not attended any Senate session or made appearances since November 2025 after it was reported that an arrest warrant has been issued against him by the International Criminal Court (ICC) over his alleged links to the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.
But the ICC, last Saturday said it had not issued any new arrest warrants in connection to the crimes against humanity case involving former president Rodrigo Duterte.
Currently, Dela Rosa is facing an ethics complaint before the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges due to his prolonged absence in the Upper Chamber.
Earlier, the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) issued subpoena against Dela Rosa and served it at his office in the Senate.
The subpoena is in connection with the ongoing investigation on the alleged extrajudicial killings (EJKs) in the Philippines during the term of Duterte.
The document directs Dela Rosa to appear before the CIDG at Camp Crame, Quezon City on Thursday, 10 a.m.
