Gasoline prices will increase for the third straight week starting Tuesday, May 12, while diesel prices will continue to decline.
Based on the prescribed adjustments of the Department of Energy (DOE), gasoline prices will rise by ₱0.47 per liter, while diesel prices will see a ₱9.57-per-liter rollback.
Kerosene will post a steeper price drop of ₱13.3 per liter.
This means that gasoline prices at the pumps, particularly RON97, may increase to ₱94.57 per liter, while diesel prices may drop to ₱79.93 per liter.
Although rates vary per gas station, oil companies will implement their respective price adjustments on Tuesday.
According to Energy Secretary Sharon Garin, the country has about 50.7 days’ worth of fuel supply, with kerosene inventory providing the largest buffer at about 165.83 days.
Gasoline has 53.43 days’ worth of supply, while diesel has 48.84 days’ worth of inventory.
“We have had steady supply since the start of the Middle East conflict. So much effort, hard work and dedication was invested in this by so many people in the government and private sector,” Garin said in a Facebook post.
She further stressed the need for fuel-saving habits, noting that “a liter less of diesel we consume or one light less we turn on is truly a building block for a more energy resilient and sovereign nation.”
Furthermore, the DOE announced that it is selling government-procured diesel to support missionary areas, such as underserved communities.
Oil procured by Philippine National Oil Co.-Exploration Corp. (PNOC-EC) will be priced at ₱80 per liter, as the state-run agency plans to sell up to 45 million liters of diesel within a three-month period.
This means that one million liters of diesel would cost ₱80 million.
These will be sold to new power providers and microgrid system providers servicing off-grid areas.
Based on data as of April 27, the government had secured 178.33 million liters of diesel.
