Cadiz City mayor lauds PMA cadet for Top 10 achievement

BACOLOD CITY – A 24-year-old cadet from Cadiz City, Negros Occidental ranked 10th in the  Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Talang Dangal” Class of 2026.
Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. lauded Cadet First Class Mark Clement Dequinto Centina of Barangay Burgos for embodying the city’s guiding principle, “Culture of compassion. Mindset for excellence.”
He said Centina’s grit, discipline, and determination made him a true inspiration for Cadiznons.
Centina, the eldest of two children, is the son of a retired Philippine Army enlisted personnel and a sugarcane farm consultant.
He finished high school at Negros Occidental National Science High School in Victorias City, Negros Occidental before taking up Economics at University of the Philippines Visayas in Iloilo City.
Inspired by his father’s military background and his experiences as a student leader during the pandemic, Centina left college in his third year to pursue a military career.
“As a student leader, I saw how difficult the situation was for many Filipinos. That was when my desire to serve became stronger,” he said.
He recalled that one of the hardest stages in the PMA came during his second year as responsibilities increased alongside the academy’s strict standards.
Aside from handling academics and military duties, cadets were expected to become role models for younger students.
Despite the pressure, Centina said discipline, patience, dedication, faith in God, and support from his family and fellow cadets helped him persevere.
Centina said joining the PMA was a blessing for him but he never expected graduating in the Top 10.
He said his greatest achievement was seeing his family proud and knowing their sacrifices have paid off.
Centina hopes his journey will inspire fellow Cadiznons, Negrosanons, and young Filipinos who may feel limited by their circumstances.
