ZAMBOANGA CITY – A specialized unit of the Bureau of Fire Protection contained a toxic chemical leak in a government hospital here on Sunday, May 10.
Medical personnel inside the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) laboratory detected a toxic chemical leak which they later identified as formalin, a substance used in preserving medical specimens.
Medical staff quickly asked for assistance from concerned agencies which promptly deployed the BFP Special Rescue Force (SRF).
The unit contained the toxic substance at midnight and turned over to the proper authorities for disposal.
Operations at the government hospital resumed on Monday.
