President Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte paid tribute to Filipino mothers on Mother’s Day, recognizing their sacrifices, love, and role in strengthening families and communities.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, May 10, Marcos described mothers as the “light of the home” and pillars of every Filipino family.
“Sa bawat ina, may pagmamahal at sakripisyong hindi kayang tumbasan ng anumang salita (In every mother is a love and sacrifice that no words can ever equal),” he said.
“Kayo ang ilaw ng tahanan at haligi ng bawat pamilyang Pilipino (You are the light of the home and the pillar of every Filipino family),” he added.
Marcos said mothers’ care, perseverance, and unconditional love continue to strengthen Filipino homes, communities, and the nation.
“Ngayong Mother’s Day, taos-puso akong nagpupugay at nagpapasalamat sa lahat ng ina (This Mother’s Day, I sincerely salute and thank all mothers),” he said.
“Maraming salamat sa pagmamahal na araw-araw ninyong iniaalay para sa inyong pamilya at para sa ating bansa (Thank you very much for the love you offer every day for your family and for our country),” he added.
Sara honors OFW mothers
Vice President Sara Duterte, meanwhile, emphasized the sacrifices and resilience of mothers, particularly overseas Filipino worker (OFW) mothers separated from their families.
“Bilang isang ina, alam ko ang bigat at saya ng ating tungkulin (As a mother, I know the weight and joy of our responsibilities),” she said.
She spoke about the “silent prayers” mothers offer for their children and the effort required to balance work and family life.
“To nurture a child and lead a household is one of the most challenging roles any woman can take,” Duterte said.
“But it is also the most rewarding,” she added.
The Vice President also described mothers as the first teachers of children and the “strong foundation” of every Filipino family.
“Tayo ang unang guro ng ating mga anak, ang takbuhan sa oras ng pangangailangan, at ang matibay na pundasyon ng bawat pamilyang Pilipino (We are the first teachers of our children, the ones they run to in times of need, and the strong foundation of every Filipino family),” she said.
Duterte also paid special tribute to mothers working abroad.
“To our OFW mothers, we know that sacrifice is not always about physical presence—sometimes, the greatest sacrifice is the distance you endure to provide for your family,” she said.
“Salamat sa inyong katatagan (Thank you for your strength),” she added.
