Vice President Sara Duterte said some politicians are allegedly benefiting financially from using her name as discussions on impeachment complaints against her continue.
In an interview released by the Office of the Vice President on May 8, Duterte responded to statements from some members of the House of Representatives claiming they already have enough votes to support impeachment proceedings against her.
“So, madami ang pumipera gamit ang pangalan ko (many people are making money using my name),” Duterte said during an interview in The Hague on May 7, when asked about reports that more than 180 lawmakers could allegedly support impeachment efforts once the matter reaches the plenary.
Duterte, meanwhile, expressed hope that the alleged funds being circulated would benefit the constituents of lawmakers.
Translated into Filipino, Duterte said: “Sana maambunan ang mga constituents nila ng mga pera sa kanilang bulsa o maleta (Hopefully, their constituents get a share of the money in their pockets or suitcases).”
Duterte did not directly address the alleged vote count but maintained her criticism of political opponents.
The House Committee on Justice is scheduled to sponsor the committee report and the resolution containing the Articles of Impeachment against Duterte on May 11.
Duterte is in the Netherlands while former President Rodrigo Duterte undergoes legal proceedings before the International Criminal Court.
Malacañang previously approved Duterte’s revised foreign travel schedule from May 2 to 15.
