Marcos, Thai PM Anutin discuss stronger bilateral ties

President Marcos has met with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul following the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, as the two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen Philippines-Thailand relations amid regional and global challenges.
In a Facebook post, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said Marcos and Anutin tackled a “broad range of issues” aimed at deepening the longstanding partnership between Manila and Bangkok.
The two leaders exchanged views on enhancing bilateral relations through high-level exchanges, trade and economic cooperation, people-to-people ties, and cooperation in combatting transnational crimes.
The meeting on Saturday, May 9, followed ASEAN leaders' discussions on regional issues, including the Middle East conflict, energy security, food resilience, and regional stability, during the summit hosted by the Philippines.
The PCO said President Marcos and Prime Minister Anutin also discussed regional and global issues of shared concern.
Both leaders likewise reaffirmed their commitment to ASEAN solidarity, regional peace, and stability.
Before this, Marcos held a trilateral meeting with Anutin and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet amid ongoing territorial disputes between Thailand and Cambodia. Both leaders agreed to sustain dialogue and to de-escalate tensions.
Thailand is one of the Philippines’ founding partners in ASEAN, which marks nearly six decades as a regional bloc this year.
The Philippines hosted the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings in Cebu under the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together.”
