GSIS allots ₱2.6 billion in emergency loans for calamity victims
Over 108,000 members and pensioners affected by recent calamities may avail themselves of ₱2.64 billion worth of emergency loans from state-run pension fund Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).
In Cagayan, 31,566 members and pensioners affected by El Niño may avail themselves of almost ₱733 million in emergency loans until May 31.
GSIS also allotted nearly ₱891 million for 36,396 members and pensioners in Davao de Oro and Surigao del Sur affected by severe flooding caused by torrential rains and typhoon “Basyang.” The application period for these areas will run until May 9.
In Davao del Norte, where flooding and landslides affected communities, GSIS earmarked ₱696.6 million for 27,588 members and pensioners. Applications may be filed until June 3.
According to GSIS, qualified applicants include active members who are working or residing in calamity-declared areas.
Applicants must not be on leave without pay, must have no pending administrative or criminal case, and should maintain a net take-home pay of at least ₱5,000 after deductions.
Old-age and disability pensioners may also apply, provided they retain at least 25 percent of their monthly pension after loan amortization.
The emergency loan is payable over 36 monthly installments at an annual interest rate of six percent.
GSIS said the loan also comes with a two-month grace period before the first deduction and includes loan redemption insurance.
Members and pensioners with existing emergency loan balances may borrow up to ₱40,000 to settle previous balances and still receive a maximum net amount of ₱20,000.
Those without existing emergency loans may borrow up to ₱20,000.
Applications may be submitted through the GSIS Touch mobile application, with loan proceeds credited directly to the borrower’s automated teller machine (ATM) account.
