17 candidates in Basilan running for Member of Parliament in BARMM elections

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Seventeen candidates are vying for the position of Member of Parliament in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao elections in Basilan province based on records of the Commission on Elections.
There are four political parties whose candidates are aspirants for four parliamentary districts in the province – The United Bangsamoro Justice Party, Bangsamoro Party, Bangsamoro People’s Party, and Bangsamoro Federalist Party.
Two independent candidates filed Certificates of Candidacy for the position of Member of Parliament.
District 1 covers Lamitan City. District 2 covers Akbar, Al-Barka, Tuburan, and Mohamad Ajul municipalities while District 3 includes Ungkaya Pukan, Sumisip and Tabuan-Lasa. District 4 covers the municipalities of Maluso, Lantawan, and Hadji Muhtamad.
District 1 candidates are: Verjuy Flores Abdurahman of the United Bangsamoro Justice Party, Abubakar Asalin Cutal of the Bangsamoro Party, Hegem Furigay of the Bangsamoro People’s Party, and Rima Hasim Hassan of Bangsamoro Federalist Party.
Second parliamentary district aspirants are Khalis Ajul Hassan, Bangsamoro Party; Abdusamie Kallahal, Bangsamoro People’s Party; Paisal Awal Sali, United Bangsamoro Justice Party; Abbas Basang Salung, Bangsamoro Federalist Party, and independent candidates Kinjing Abatih and Altun Tadjalla Angeles.
Khan Hasalal of the Bangsamoro Party and Abrar Jainuddin Hataman, Bangsamoro Federalist Party, are vying in District 3 while five candidates are in District 4 – Monar Ayub Ibno, Bangsamoro Party; Pendatun Mohamad, Best Party; Omar Muailam, United Bangsamoro Justice Party; Jimael Salliman, Bangsamoro Federalist Party, and Alzad Sattar, Bangsamoro People’s Party.
Gov. Mujiv Hataman is optimistic that the first parliamentary election in Basilan will be peaceful and orderly.
Comelec-Basilan led by Atty. Roberto dela Peña will hold the first Joint Security Coordinating Meeting next week to discuss possible hotspots in the province and other security arrangements.
