'Train to Busan' director Yeon Sang-ho returns to Cannes with zombie film 'Colony'
Korean zombie thriller “Colony” is set for its official screening at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, running from May 12 to 23 in Cannes, France.
The film is directed by Yeon Sang-ho, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the global hit "Train to Busan," marking another major international showcase for the director known for redefining Korean genre cinema.
“Colony” features an ensemble cast led by Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hyun-bin, and Kim Shin-rok.
Selected for the Out of Competition section, the film will hold its world premiere at the Grand Theatre Lumière on May 15 at 12:30 a.m. (local time). A red carpet event featuring Yeon and the cast will precede the screening.
This marks Yeon Sang-ho’s fourth invitation to Cannes.
The cast expressed excitement over the film’s Cannes debut.
Jun Ji-hyun said she was “truly happy and honored” to present her first collaboration with Yeon at such a prestigious festival, adding that she hopes to showcase the strength of Korean genre films.
Koo Kyo-hwan shared his curiosity about how international audiences will receive the film, saying he hopes to connect deeply with viewers amid Cannes’ “passionate enthusiasm for cinema.”
Ji Chang-wook also emphasized the collective effort behind the project, saying he hopes to help bring global recognition to the work of the entire production team.
Following its Cannes premiere, “Colony” is scheduled for theatrical release in South Korea on May 21.
