The Taguig police now use electric bicycles (e-bikes) for patrol operations to strengthen street visibility.
The city government has turned over 16 e-bikes to the police for use by Tourist Police Units (TPUs), with 14 more units to be delivered to complete the 30-unit allocation.
Malaking dagdag po ito sa ating mga kagamitan at resources upang mas mapalakas ang operational capabilities ng Taguig City Police Station, lalo na sa pagpapatrolya. Bukod po sa motorcycle patrol, mobile patrol, at car patrol, magkakaroon na rin po tayo ng e-bike patrol (This is a big addition to our equipment and resources to further strengthen the operational capabilities of the Taguig City Police Station, especially in conducting patrol. Aside from motorcycle patrol, mobile patrol, and car patrol, we will also have e-bike patrol),” Police Col. Julius Añonuevo, Taguig police chief, said as he thanked the city government.
Mayor Lani Cayetano, who accompanied the police in the pilot use of the e-bikes, said the vehicles support the sustainability efforts of the city government.
She noted that amid the increase in the price of petroleum in the country, the city government and the Taguig police’s expenses for petroleum have also increased.
The e-bikes, she said, make transportation more sustainable and promote a healthy lifestyle. She added that the e-bikes can also be used as a regular bicycle.
